Best for

Young professionals and expats

Sachsenhausen is one of the safest first recommendations for expats moving to Frankfurt because it gives you a little of everything: social life, river access, good transport, and enough day-to-day infrastructure that you do not feel stranded while learning the city. The area around Schweizer Straße and Schweizer Platz is the practical heart of the district for many newcomers.

The vibe is lively without feeling chaotic in every pocket. Closer to the traditional Apfelwein bars and busier restaurant stretches, evenings can be noisy. Move a few streets away and the atmosphere turns much calmer. That mix is part of the appeal: you can enjoy a neighborhood with personality without living directly above the action.

Transport is one of Sachsenhausen’s strongest points. U1, U2, and U3 make it easy to reach the center, while Tram 16 helps with everyday cross-city movement. For people commuting to the Bankenviertel or central offices near Hauptwache, travel times are often comfortable enough that you do not feel forced to optimize every minute of your housing search.

Rent reflects the demand. A 1-bedroom around €1,250 is a useful baseline, but renovated units or especially attractive locations can climb above that fast. Two-bedroom flats often move into a noticeably higher bracket, especially in the more polished southern sections.

The main pros are obvious: strong social energy, easy transit, and a district that still feels recognisably Frankfurt. The main cons are price pressure and competition. If you want a neighborhood that helps new arrivals settle quickly, Sachsenhausen is still one of the best choices.
